Twig!
Down in the meadow where the daisies grow
There runs a pup with his heart aglow
Ears like sails and a tail that spins
That’s little Twig, where the trouble begins
Oh, Twig, mad Twig, a whirlwind of hair
Leaping through the brambles without a care
Mud on your paws and joy in your grin
The world’s a wild wonder when Twig runs in
He chased his shadow across the old stone wall
Barked at the crows till the evening’s fall
Stole my glasses and ran full scale
Just laughed with his eyes and wagged that tail
Oh, Twig, mad Twig, you whirlwind of hair
Leaping through the brambles without a care
Mud on your paws and joy in your grin
The world’s a wild wonder when Twig runs in
He dreams of pheasants and rivers wide
Of chasing the moon on the midnight tide
No leash could tame that spirit’s flame
He’s the forest’s heart with a lovely name
Now the stars come out and the fields grow still
But Twig’s still dancing by the window sill
He curls by the fire when his romp is done
And dreams of tomorrow’s mad new run
Oh, Twig, sweet Twig, you untamed thing
Leaping through the bramble till the church bells ring
May your paws stay muddy, your heart stay wild
Forever my mad little spaniel child
